Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

When my God is fully pleased with me,

then tell me — how could suffering or doubt come near me?

When you are at peace with the One, suffering and doubt can't find a way in.
The deeper layer

When the One is pleased with you, sorrow and doubt cannot get close.

Guru Arjan asks it like a question that already knows its answer. Ja-o suparsan ho-i-o parabh mayraa — when my God is fully pleased with me. Taa dookh bharam kaho kaisay nayraa — then tell me, how can suffering or doubt come near?

Being pleasing to the One is itself a gift of grace. And that gift is a shelter. Think of a strong wall around a garden. The wind can blow outside, but the flowers inside stay safe. The One who is pleased with you is that wall around your soul.

A Question to Sit With

What would it feel like to be so at peace that worry couldn't reach you?
