I have obtained my reward, chanting the Mantra of the True Guru. ||2||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

My suffering is over, and my worry is forgotten.

I have received my reward by chanting the Guru's Mantra.

Some peace doesn't just ease the worry — it makes you forget you ever carried it.
The deeper layer

Guru Arjan says his pain has ended and his worry is forgotten.

Mit ga-i-aa dookh bisaaree chintaa — the suffering is gone, and chintaa, worry, is forgotten. Not just kept under control. Forgotten, as if it had never held on at all.

Think of a scary dream. In the morning you wake up in the sunshine, and by lunch you can hardly remember it. That is how this worry fades.

Where did this reward come from? Jap satgur manntaa — from repeating the mantra, the sacred words, given by the True Guru. The cure was the practice itself.

A Question to Sit With

What has eased so completely that you forgot you used to carry it?
