Grace Was Poured Into Your Hands; Don't Let It Slip

ਕਰ ਮਹਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਆਣਿ ਨਿਸਾਰਿਓ ॥
kar meh amrit aan nisaari-o.
He came and poured His Ambrosial Nectar into your hands,
ਖਿਸਰਿ ਗਇਓ ਭੂਮ ਪਰਿ ਡਾਰਿਓ ॥੨॥
khisar ga-i-o bhoom par daari-o. ||2||
but it slipped through your fingers, and fell onto the ground. ||2||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

He came and poured the sweet Nectar right into your hands.

But it slipped through your fingers and spilled on the ground.

Grace was poured right into your hands — the tragedy is letting it slip through your fingers.
The deeper layer

This one says grace was poured right into your hands, so hold on to it.

This picture is hard to forget. Kar meh amrit aan nisaari-o — the One came and poured amrit, a sweet nectar, into your hands. Khisar ga-i-o bhoom par daari-o — but it slipped through your fingers and fell to the ground.

The gift was placed right in the hands, and still it slipped away. Grace was not held back. It just was not held on to.

Think of a friend handing you a cup of cold water on a hot day. You are busy waving at someone, and it spills. The friend gave it freely. The spilling happened because you were not paying attention.

A Question to Sit With

Has something precious slipped through your fingers because you weren't paying attention?
