Sikhism·Raag Aasaa·Shabad 171
Verse 3 of 5

Turn the Mind to the One and Fear Scatters

ਜਉ ਮੈ ਅਪੁਨਾ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਚੀਤਿ ॥
ja-o mai apunaa saahib cheet.
When I remember my Lord and Master,
ਤਉ ਭਉ ਮਿਟਿਓ ਮੇਰੇ ਮੀਤ ॥੨॥
ta-o bha-o miti-o mayray meet. ||2||
my fears are dispelled, O my friend. ||2||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

When I remember my Master,

my fears are scattered, my friend.

Turn the mind to the One, and fear simply scatters.
The deeper layer

Remembrance scatters fear: "when I remember my Lord and Master, my fears are dispelled." Fear cannot hold its ground in a mind turned to the One. The act of remembering is itself the dispersal of fear.

A Question to Sit With

What fear loosens the moment you remember what holds you?
