In plain words

Every moment, I adore Him; day and night, I serve Him so.

The Cherisher of the world has shown mercy; in the company of the holy, says Nanak, He forgives us.

Constant, humble service prepares the ground — and forgiveness is the gift that comes.
The deeper layer

This one says humble service gets the ground ready, and forgiveness comes as a gift.

Nimakh nimakh — every moment, in each blink of an eye. Guru Arjan remembers the One that often. And he serves day and night. This is the steady rhythm of a life of service.

Then he says who really does the work. The One, the Keeper of the world, became kind. Saadhsang — in the company of good and holy people — He forgives us.

Think of a gardener. She waters and weeds every day. But she cannot make the seed sprout. The sun and rain do that. Our service is the watering. Forgiveness is the sunshine, and it is a gift.

A Question to Sit With

What does it feel like to be forgiven, freely, in good company?
