Verse 6 of 6

Safe From Every Hazard, the Soul Hears the Music

ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਜਿਸੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ॥
kaho naanak jis satgur pooraa.
Says Nanak, one whose True Guru is Perfect
ਵਾਜੇ ਤਾ ਕੈ ਅਨਹਦ ਤੂਰਾ ॥੫॥੪੦॥੯੧॥
vaajay taa kai anhad tooraa. ||5||40||91||
- the unblown bugles of ecstasy vibrate for him. ||5||40||91||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Says Nanak: the one whose true Guru is perfect —

for him, the unstruck bugles of ecstasy resound.

Safe from every hazard of the road, the soul hears a music no instrument makes.
The deeper layer

The shabad ends in music.

The one whose true Guru is perfect hears something wonderful. Vaajay taa kai anhad tooraa — for that one, the unstruck bugles sound. Anhad means unstruck: music that no one plays on any instrument. It is the sound of bliss, playing inside.

Look back at the whole road. There were robbers, a toll-collector, and the record-keepers. The soul with the perfect Guru is safe from all of them. And that freedom ends in music within. Think of getting home safe after a scary trip. You can finally breathe, and your heart starts to sing.

A Question to Sit With

What inner music might you hear once you feel truly safe?
