Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

I have entered the shelter of the Creator, the cause of all causes.

By the Guru's grace, I have come into the home of heavenly bliss; the darkness is cleared, and the moon of wisdom has risen.

Wisdom dawns like a gentle moon, quietly lighting the darkness of not-knowing.
The deeper layer

This one says wisdom rises gently, like the moon.

This is the Rahao, the "pause" line, the center of the shabad. chand charhi-aa — the moon has risen. Wisdom does not come like a harsh noon sun. It comes like a cool, soft moon lighting up a dark night. The darkness is not knowing.

Think of a night-light coming on in a dark room. Suddenly you can see, and nothing hurts your eyes.

The soul has taken shelter in the Creator. And it finds the home of deep, quiet joy, softly lit. (See also Shabad 73, the jewel of wisdom.)

A Question to Sit With

What is a moment when understanding rose in you and softly lit something up?
