Says Nanak, meditate in remembrance of the One Lord God.
ਗਤਿ ਪਾਈਐ ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੇ ਟੇਕ ॥੪॥੩॥੯੭॥
gat paa-ee-ai gur pooray tayk. ||4||3||97||
Salvation is obtained, in the Shelter of the Perfect Guru. ||4||3||97||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Says Nanak: remember the One —

salvation is found in the shelter of the perfect Guru.

Against forgetting, pain, and ingratitude, the remedy is simply: remember.
The deeper layer

The answer to forgetting is simple: remember.

Kaho naanak parabh simrahu ayk — says Nanak, remember the One. Simran means remembering the One with love. Gat paa-ee-ai gur pooray tayk — freedom comes by leaning on the perfect Guru. Tayk means support, something you lean on.

This shabad named three troubles: forgetting, pain and not saying thank you. The last line gives one answer to all three. Think of a friend holding the ladder while you climb. The Guru is the support, and remembering is the climb.

A Question to Sit With

What would help you remember, day to day, the source of all you have?
