Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
A son is born — a devotee of the One.
This destiny, written long ago, is now shown to all.
In the tenth month, by the Lord's Order, the baby is born.
Sadness is gone, and great joy wells up.
The companions joyfully sing the Guru's Bani,
and this pleases the Lord.
This part includes the Rahao, the "pause" line at the center of the shabad: a son is born who loves the One.
Jammi-aa poot bhagat govind kaa — a son is born, a devotee of the One who cares for the world. What was written long ago is now plain for all to see.
The baby comes in the tenth month, by Hukam, the One's order, right on time. Sadness goes away and big joy arrives.
And how does everyone celebrate? They sing. Gurbaanee sakhee anand gaavai — the friends joyfully sing the Guru's words. It is like a family birthday where the cake waits until everyone has sung. Here joy and love for the One are the same thing.
How do you celebrate the good things — and could praise be part of it?
