The Saints See the Ever-Present One

ਸਦਾ ਸਹਾਈ ਸੰਤ ਪੇਖਹਿ ਸਦਾ ਹਜੂਰਿ ॥
sadaa sahaa-ee sant paykheh sadaa hajoor.
You are the constant help and support of the Saints, who behold You Ever-present.
ਨਾਮ ਬਿਹੂਨੜਿਆ ਸੇ ਮਰਨ੍ਹ੍ਹਿ ਵਿਸੂਰਿ ਵਿਸੂਰਿ ॥੨॥
naam bihoonrhi-aa say marniH visoor visoor. ||2||
Those who lack the Naam, the Name of the Lord, shall die, engulfed in sorrow and pain. ||2||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

You are the constant help of the Saints. They see You always near.

Those who lack the Name die, full of sorrow and pain.

The Saints see the One ever-present; without the Name, the same One goes unseen.
The deeper layer

This one says the saints see the One close by, and the Name is what helps us see.

Sadaa sahaa-ee sant paykheh sadaa hajoor — "You always help the saints, who see You always near." The second line is sad: naam bihoonrhi-aa say marnih visoor visoor — those without the Name die full of sorrow.

The difference is not that the One likes some people more. The One is near to everyone. The question is whether we see it. The Name works like glasses. Put them on, and the blurry world comes into focus, and the ever-present One is right there. Without them, life can feel lonely and heavy all the way to the end.

A Question to Sit With

What helps you notice what is always present but easy to miss?
