Wear Glad Acceptance as Your Finest Ornament

ਭਰਤਾ ਕਹੈ ਸੁ ਮਾਨੀਐ ਏਹੁ ਸੀਗਾਰੁ ਬਣਾਇ ਰੀ ॥
bhartaa kahai so maanee-ai ayhu seegaar banaa-ay ree.
Whatever your Husband Lord says, accept that, and make it your decoration.

Forget the love of duality, and chew upon this betel leaf. ||2||

In plain words

Whatever your Beloved says, accept it, and make it your decoration.

Forget the love of other things, and chew upon this betel leaf.

Wear glad acceptance of the One's word as your finest ornament.
The deeper layer

The shabad says: let accepting the Beloved's word be your jewelry.

Bhartaa kahai so maanee-ai — whatever the Beloved says, accept it. Ayhu seegaar banaa-ay — make that your decoration. A bride usually dresses up in jewels. This bride dresses in glad acceptance of the Hukam, the One's will, the flow of how things are.

A bride also chewed a tambol, a betel leaf, as part of getting ready. Here the betel leaf becomes something inside: doojaa bhaa-o visaaree-ai — forget the love of anything in place of the One. Wearing the One's will becomes her beauty. Another shabad in Raag Aasaa paints the same picture.

A Question to Sit With

Could accepting what comes, rather than fighting it, become a kind of beauty?
