Twenty-four hours a day, stand with your palms pressed together, and the Lord, your King, shall meet you. ||3||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Make the Word your lamp, and let your bed be Truth.

Day and night, stand with palms pressed together, and the One, your King, shall meet you.

Light the lamp of the Word and rest on Truth — and the One will come to meet you.
The deeper layer

Here are more of the bride's preparations, now all turned inward.

Gur kaa sabad kar deepko — make the Guru's Word your lamp. Ih sat kee sayj bichhaa-ay — spread Truth as your bed. The lamp is the Shabad, the Word. The bed is Truth. Another shabad in Raag Aasaa uses these same pictures.

Picture getting a room ready for someone you love. You switch on the light and make the bed. Then you wait with folded hands, day and night. The bride who keeps the Word lit and rests on Truth is met by the King. Get the room inside you ready, and the Beloved comes.

A Question to Sit With

How do you prepare, inside, to welcome what matters most?
