Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

O God, merciful to the meek, compassionate Master, Your Name is the support of Your devotees.

Nanak has come to Your Sanctuary; make him Your own, and preserve his honor.

When you've only debts to show, the one move left is to throw yourself on mercy.
The deeper layer

The close is the bad trader's only move: sanctuary. "Merciful to the meek," the One is asked to "make him Your Own, and preserve his honor." The one with nothing but debts throws himself on mercy — and that, not better trading, is his salvation.

A Question to Sit With

Is it freeing to come empty-handed and simply ask to be taken in?
