In plain words

God has created the illusion of the three qualities; tell me, how can it be crossed?

The whirlpool is awesome and unfathomable; only through the Word of the Guru is one carried across.

Illusion is a whirlpool — you can't struggle out; only the Word carries you across.
The deeper layer

The world's illusion is like a whirlpool, and only the Guru's Word can carry you across.

Maya is the pull of the world, the illusion that passing things matter most. The verse says God made it from three qualities, the trai gun: restlessness, dullness, and goodness. Tell me, how can anyone cross it?

Ghooman ghayr agaah gaakhree — it is a whirlpool, deep and hard to escape. You cannot swim out of a whirlpool by struggling. Thrashing only pulls you deeper. Picture a strong current at the beach, and a lifeguard reaching you with a float. Gur sabdee paar utree-ai — only through the Guru's Word are you carried across.

A Question to Sit With

What 'whirlpool' have you found you can't escape by struggling harder?
