ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

Aasaa, Fifth Mehl:
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਮੋਲਾ ॥
har har naam amolaa.
The Name of the Lord, Har, Har, is priceless.
ਓਹੁ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਹੇਲਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
oh sahj suhaylaa. ||1|| rahaa-o.
It brings peace and poise. ||1||Pause||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

The Name of the One is priceless;

it brings peace and poise.

The most priceless thing there is brings the steadiest calm.
The deeper layer

This one says the most precious thing brings the calmest heart.

This is the rahaa-o line, the "pause" line. It is the center of the whole song. Har har naam amolaa — the Name of the One is priceless. No amount of money could buy it.

And it gives sahj — a steady, easy calm. The most valuable thing there is gives the steadiest peace.

Think of the air you breathe. It is worth more than anything, yet it costs nothing. The Name is like that. Priceless, and still free for anyone to remember.

A Question to Sit With

What is priceless to you that money could never buy?
