The One Is Every Dear Relationship at Once

ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮੁ ਭਾਈ ਬਾਪੁ ਮੋਰੋ ਮਾਈ ਭਗਤਨ ਕਾ ਓਲ੍ਹ੍ਹਾ ॥੨॥
pareetam bhaa-ee baap moro maa-ee bhagtan kaa olHaa. ||2||
He is my Beloved, my brother, father and mother; He is the Support of His devotees. ||2||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

He is my Beloved, my brother, father, and mother;

He is the Support of His devotees.

The One is every dear relationship at once — beloved, sibling, father, mother.
The deeper layer

This one says the One is every dear relationship at once.

Guru Arjan says the One is pareetam, my Beloved. And my brother, my father, and my mother. Whatever love you find in a family, the One is where it comes from, and more.

He is also bhagtan kaa olHaa — the shelter of those who love Him.

Think of a warm family dinner, with everyone you love around the table. Now imagine all that love in one place, and never running out. That is the picture here. Guru Arjan paints the same picture in another song, calling the One mother and father.

A Question to Sit With

What loves in your life all point back to one source?
