Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Please help me sustain my devotion.

O Master, I have come to You.

Sometimes the truest prayer is simply: help me keep going.
The deeper layer

Sometimes the best prayer is simply: please help me keep going.

This is the Rahao, the "pause" line, the center of the shabad. Aapunee bhagat nibaahi — please help me keep up my love for You. Bhagat means loving devotion. The prayer is not for anything big or flashy. It asks only for the strength to continue.

Thaakur aa-i-o aahi — O Master, I have come to You. Think of learning an instrument. Starting is exciting. The hard part is practicing every day after that. This prayer knows that. Having arrived at the One's door, the soul asks for one thing: to be kept faithful. Even the strength to keep going is a gift we can ask for.

A Question to Sit With

What good thing do you most need help to keep up, not just to start?
