naam padaarath ho-ay sakaarath hirdai charan basaahi. ||1||
With the wealth of the Naam, the Name of the Lord, life becomes fruitful. Lord, please place Your Feet within my heart. ||1||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

With the wealth of the Name, life becomes fruitful;

Lord, please place Your Feet within my heart.

Life bears real fruit when the One lives within your heart.
The deeper layer

Life bears fruit when the One lives inside your heart.

Naam padaarath means the treasure of the Name. With that treasure, ho-ay sakaarath — life becomes fruitful. It grows something that lasts. Another shabad in Raag Aasaa says the same about the jewel of life made fruitful.

Then the request becomes very close and warm: hirdai charan basaahi — please place Your feet in my heart. Asking for someone's feet in your heart means asking them to come and stay. Think of inviting your favorite grandparent to live in your home. The whole house feels different. A fruitful life is one the One lives inside.

A Question to Sit With

What would make your life feel truly fruitful?
