Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

One who is dead while yet alive crosses the terrifying world-ocean.

One who becomes the dust of all is alone called fearless; his anxieties are removed by the Teachings of the Saints, O my mind.

The bravest soul is the humblest — having nothing to defend, it has nothing to fear.
The deeper layer

Two paradoxes joined: jeevat marnaa ("dead while yet alive" crosses the ocean) and a striking definition of courage — "one who becomes the dust of all... is called fearless." The lowest, most humble soul is the bravest; having nothing to defend, it has nothing to fear.

A Question to Sit With

How might humility make a person fearless rather than weak?
