In plain words

You are my Friend, my Best Friend; please implant the Name within me.

Without Him there is no other; within my mind I adore Him, never forgetting Him an instant — how can I live without Him? I am a sacrifice to the Guru; chant the Name, O my mind.

Once the One is your best friend, you cannot imagine living without it for an instant.
The deeper layer

This one is the cry of someone who cannot live without their best friend.

saajan meet too — You are my Friend, my Best Friend. The singer asks the One to plant the Name deep inside. They never forget the One, even for a blink. Then comes the cry: tis bin ki-o sarai — how can I live without Him?

This longing has a name, viraha. It means the ache of being apart from someone you love. Think of how you miss your family on your first night away at camp.

Once you have tasted this friendship, being apart feels impossible. It is like the fish that cannot live out of water (see also Shabad 86).

A Question to Sit With

Who is so dear to you that you can't imagine a day without them?
