He plays the instrument without hands and dances without feet.
But only if he understands the Word will he behold the True One.
With the True One within, all happiness comes.
Showering mercy, the Preserving Lord keeps him safe.
Guru Nanak describes a music played without hands and a dance danced without feet.
Kar bin vaajaa pag bin taalaa — he plays with no hands and keeps the beat with no feet. It sounds like a riddle. It is the inside music and dance of a soul lost in the One. It makes no sound, and it does not move, yet it is full of joy.
Think of a song playing in your head. No one else hears it, but you feel it all through you. Other shabads in this raag speak of this too: real worship is love playing inside, and the dance that matters quiets the self.
What makes this music real? Jay sabad bujhai taa sach nihaalaa — if a person understands the Word, then they see the True One. With the True One inside, all happiness comes. And the One, the Protector, keeps that person safe.
