He is the Banker who tests us;
by His True Glance of Grace, we are blessed with the Love of the One, and saved.
This is the "pause" line, the rahaa-o — the center of the shabad. It pictures the One as a banker who tests coins.
Aisaa saahu saraafee karai — such is the Banker who tests us. A banker in the old market could tell a real gold coin from a fake one. Another hymn in this raag uses the same picture.
But this testing is not cold judging. It is the first step toward grace. Saachee nadar — by His true glance of grace — we are given love for the One and carried across. Think of a teacher who checks your work only so she can help you grow.
