Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

His body becomes golden by the Lord's Incomparable Light;

he beholds the divine beauty in all three worlds. That inexhaustible wealth of Truth is now in my lap.

Touched by the Light, the soul turns to gold and sees beauty everywhere.
The deeper layer

Guru Nanak is saying: touched by the One's Light, the soul turns to gold.

Kanchan kaa-i-aa jot anoop — the body becomes golden through the One's matchless Light. Jot means Light. It is like the old story of the philosopher's stone, which turns plain iron into gold at a touch. Another hymn in this raag uses that very stone. Here the plain metal of the soul becomes gold.

Then the person sees the One's beauty in all three worlds, everywhere they look. And Guru Nanak says the endless wealth of Truth is now in his own lap. Think of finding a treasure chest that fills up again every time you open it.

A Question to Sit With

What might 'turn to gold' in you if touched by something truly good?
