The fool does not realize what he sees with his eyes;
he does not taste with his tongue, nor understand what is said. Intoxicated with poison, he argues with the world.
Guru Nanak is saying: eyes and ears can be wide open while the soul stays shut.
The moorakh, the foolish person, has all his senses. He sees, but does not understand what he sees. His tongue does not truly taste, and he does not grasp what people tell him. Bikh kaa maataa — drunk on poison — jag si-o loojhai, he only argues with the world. The poison here is Maya, the pull of the world that makes us forget the One.
Think of someone scrolling a phone at a beautiful beach. The sunset is right there, but they never really see it. The senses are open, but the soul is shut.
