A Mind Crowded With Passions Is Comforted Only by the Name

Sexual desire, anger and emotional attachment fill the mind and body;

greed and egotism lead only to pain.
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨੁ ਕਿਉ ਮਨੁ ਧੀਰਾ ॥੨॥

How can the mind be comforted without the Lord's Name? ||2||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Lust, anger, and attachment fill the mind and body;

greed and egotism lead only to pain. How can the mind be comforted without the Name?

A mind crowded with the passions can't be comforted by anything but the Name.
The deeper layer

The mind "filled" with the Panch Vikaar finds only pain — and the rhetorical question lands the point: "how can the mind be comforted without the Lord's Name?" Nothing but the Name can console a mind crowded with the passions.

A Question to Sit With

What truly comforts your mind when it is crowded and restless?
