There is no other medicine, charm, or mantra; remembrance of the One destroys sins.
You Yourself cause us to stray and forget the Name; showering mercy, You Yourself save us.
The Name is the best medicine for the soul.
Avar na a-ukhadh tant na manntaa — there is no other medicine, charm or spell. A-ukhadh means medicine. Tant and mant were charms and magic words people used to try to fix their troubles. The verse says har har simran, remembering the One, is what wipes away wrongdoing.
Then comes a humbling truth: "You Yourself cause us to stray... You Yourself save us." Both the wandering and the finding happen inside the One's order. Think of a child who wanders off at a big fair. The parent never stops watching and brings the child back. Even our wandering is held.
