A Life Without the Word Wastes Its One Chance

rog bharam bhayd man doojaa.
The mind is diseased with doubt, superstition and duality.
gur bin bharam jaapeh jap doojaa.
Without the Guru, it dwells in doubt, and contemplates duality.

The Guru reveals the Darshan, the Blessed Vision of the Primal Lord.

Without the Word of the Guru's Shabad, what use is human life? ||5||

In plain words

The mind is diseased with doubt, superstition, and duality; without the Guru it dwells in doubt.

The Guru reveals the Blessed Vision of the Primal One; without the Word, what use is human life?

A life without the Word wastes its one chance — what use is it?
The deeper layer

A life without the Guru's Word misses its one great chance.

Rog bharam bhayd man doojaa — the mind is sick with bharam, doubt and superstition, and with doojaa, the feeling of being separate. Only the Guru can cure it. The Guru shows the Darshan, the loving sight of the One who was there from the very start.

Then comes a sharp question: without the Word of the Guru's Shabad, what use is human life? Think of getting one ticket to the most amazing show. It would be sad to spend the whole time looking at your phone. Human life is that one ticket.

A Question to Sit With

What would make this rare human life truly worth its while?
