In plain words

For devotion, we chant Your Name. The devotees live among the Saints.

Breaking his bonds, one comes to meditate. The Gurmukhs are set free by the knowledge the Guru gives of the One.

Devotion is lived among the holy, and freedom comes by knowledge that is given.
The deeper layer

Loving the One is something we do together, in good company.

Sant bhagat kee sangat raam — the One is found in the sangat, the company of good and loving people. Bhagat means devotee, someone who loves the One. Devotion is not a solo thing.

Bandhan toray — the bonds break, and the mind settles into peaceful remembering. The Gurmukh, one who faces the Guru, is set free by gur gi-aan, the wisdom the Guru gives. Think of learning to ride a bike with friends cheering you on. It's easier, and more fun, in good company.

A Question to Sit With

Who helps you break the bonds you can't break alone?
