You shall receive the profit of singing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, and find peace. ||1||Pause||

In plain words

As long as there is breath and life in you, meditate on the True One.

The profit is singing His praises — and in it, peace is found.

Praise is the rare work that pays while you do it — and the shop is open as long as breath lasts.
The deeper layer

Keep remembering the One for as long as you breathe. Singing praise is its own reward.

This is the Rahao, the "pause" line at the center of the shabad. Ja-o lag jee-o paraan sach dhi-aa-ee-ai — as long as there is breath and life, remember the True One. Not just one season of life. Not only when you are old. The whole way through, because each breath is what we have to work with.

Raag Aasaa often talks like a shopkeeper about profit. Here the profit, laahaa, is singing the One's praises, and peace comes with it. The singing does not earn the reward later. The singing is the reward. Most jobs pay you at the end of the month. Praise pays you while you do it.

A Question to Sit With

What activity gives you peace while you are doing it, not just after?
