The One is the one acting, and the One is what stirs us to act. The One hears every complaint.
Since You are the real Doer behind everything, why would I bow down in fear to the world?
If the One is the real Doer, there is no need to be afraid of the world.
Aap karaa-ay aap karay-i — the One acts, and the One moves us to act. Aap means "the One Himself." The One also listens to every complaint we bring.
So Guru Nanak asks, ki-aa muhtaajee ki-aa sansaar — why should I bow down to the world? No powerful person gets the final word. Think of a student who knows the head teacher is fair and kind. A bully in the hallway can't scare them in the same way. Trust in Ik Onkar, the One who is in everything, does two things. It sweeps away the ranking of people by caste. And it sweeps away the fear that lets unfair power push people around.
What might you stop being afraid of if you remembered who is really in charge?
