Even the Blindness Is in the Weave

Knowledge and ignorance are all your making; You have control over these.

Some, You forgive, and unite with Yourself; while others, the wicked, you strike down and drive out of Your Court. ||3||

In plain words

Understanding and non-understanding are both Your making — both serve Your design.

Some You forgive and join to Yourself; the false You strike down and drive from the Court.

Even the blindness is in the weave — and falsehood is still really driven from the Court.
The deeper layer

This one says that even not understanding is part of the One's design.

This is the hymn's hardest honesty. Even abujh-naa, not understanding, is His making. That is the blindness that keeps people from the Name. Guru Amar Das will not split the world into the One's successes and the ones who got away. Think of a big weaving. The dark threads are part of the pattern too, on purpose.

And yet right and wrong still fully matter. Some are forgiven and united with Him. The koorhi-aar, those who deal in lies, are driven from the Court.

Both truths stand. Nothing happens outside His making. And falsehood really is sent away. Gurbani leaves this mystery standing. It will not shrink one truth to make the other feel easier.

A Question to Sit With

Can two things both be true: that everything has a purpose, and that our choices really matter?
