In plain words

Body and mind grow cool and soothed; their faces turn radiant — through the love of the Beloved.

The bed of meeting is at peace: they delight in Him, with ego and craving stilled.

Real devotion shows: the fever cools, and the face turns radiant.
The deeper layer

Real love for the One shows on the outside.

Tan man seetal — body and mind grow cool and soothed. This raag often pictures the world as burning, and here the burning is finally cooled in a person. Mukh ujlay — their faces shine. That glow cannot be made with makeup, and it cannot be hidden. It is the look of someone who loves and is loved. Think of a child's face when a grandparent walks in the door. Later this becomes one of the tradition's central blessings: may your face shine.

Earlier, in the sad parts of the shabad, the bed of meeting stood empty. Here it is sukhaalee, restful and at peace. Why? Because the two troublemakers who kept it sleepless are quiet now: ha-umai, the ego, and tarisnaa, craving.

A Question to Sit With

Whose face lights up a room for you — and what do you think put that light there?
