You're Backed for the Journey; the Capital Is the Name

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸਾਹੁ ਸਿਖ ਵਣਜਾਰੇ ॥
satgur saahu sikh vanjaaray.
The True Guru is the Banker, and His Sikhs are the traders.
ਪੂੰਜੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਲੇਖਾ ਸਾਚੁ ਸਮ੍ਹਾਰੇ ॥੭॥
poonjee naam laykhaa saach samHaaray. ||7||
Their merchandise is the Naam, and meditation on the True Lord is their account. ||7||

In plain words

Here is how the trade works. The great Teacher is the Banker who backs you. The students are the traders who go out into the world. The money they carry is the Name itself, and the record they keep is simply the truth.

You are backed for the journey — the capital is the Name, and the only ledger is truth.
The deeper layer

The commercial image reaches its clearest form: satgur saahu, sikh vanjaare — the True Guru is the Banker, the Sikhs are the traveling merchants. A trader needs backing capital to trade at all — and here the poonjee (capital) is the Name, given freely to carry. Their ledger, their lekhaa, is saach — truth itself; there is nothing to hide in the books because the only accounting is honesty. The relationship is one of trust flowing outward: the Banker equips, the traders go, and what they deal in and record is never anything but real.

A Question to Sit With

Who 'backs' you — gives you what you need to go out and do good in the world?
