When Something Takes Your Sadness, Why Walk Away?

ਜਿਸੁ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਦੁਖ ਬੀਸਰਹਿ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਸੋ ਕਿਉ ਤਜਣਾ ਜਾਇ ॥੨॥
jis simrat dukh beesrahi pi-aaray so ki-o tajnaa jaa-ay. ||2||
Remembering Him, sorrows are forgotten, O Beloved; how can one forsake Him? ||2||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

When I remember that One, all my sadness just slips away. So how could I ever let go of that? How could I turn away?

When something quietly takes your sadness away, walking away from it makes no sense at all.
The deeper layer

This one asks: if something takes your sadness away, why would you ever walk away from it?

So ki-o tajnaa jaa-ay — how could anyone leave that One? It is a question with no answer, because the answer is obvious.

Here is the simple logic of love. When you remember the Beloved, dukh beesrahi — the sorrows are forgotten. They quietly slip away.

Think of a warm blanket on a cold night. It is right there, and it makes the shivering stop. Pushing it away would be strange. This is not an order to stay loyal. It is the puzzled voice of someone who cannot picture leaving the one thing that heals them.

A Question to Sit With

What is something whose company makes your worries grow quiet?
