Verse 7 of 8

When You Truly Trust, Whatever You Decide Is Rest

ਜੋ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋ ਭਲਾ ਪਿਆਰੇ ਤੇਰੀ ਅਮਰੁ ਰਜਾਇ ॥੭॥
jo tuDh bhaavai so bhalaa pi-aaray tayree amar rajaa-ay. ||7||
Whatever pleases You is good, O Beloved; Your Will is Eternal. ||7||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Whatever You decide is good with me. Your wish stands forever, and I trust it.

When you truly trust someone who loves you, 'whatever you decide' becomes a place to rest.
The deeper layer

When you truly trust someone who loves you, whatever they decide feels like rest.

Jo tudh bhaavai so bhalaa pi-aaray — whatever pleases You is good, Beloved. Tayree amar rajaa-ay — Your will lasts forever. Rajaa means the One's will, the way the One wants things to be.

The same line closes a shabad just before this one, and it comes back in the next song too. It is the place this whole group of songs keeps arriving.

Longing that really trusts its Beloved stops needing to control how things turn out. The love is true, and the One is beautiful and wise. So "whatever You want" is not giving up hope. It is hope coming true. Think of a long car ride with a parent you trust at the wheel. You can fall asleep in the back seat, because the one driving loves you.

A Question to Sit With

When is it easiest to say 'whatever you think is best' — and why does trust make it easy?
