Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
Speak to the One you love with your whole heart. That love fills up your body and mind until you feel wonderfully at home in it.
Get to know how good and beautiful the One really is, and goodness naturally moves in while the not-so-good quietly slips away. I couldn't last a moment without that love — and just talking about it is never quite enough; I want the real thing.
The verse invites a loving prayer — not a formal request, but speaking to the Beloved heart-to-heart. And it names a beautiful chain reaction: gun pachhaanahi — when you truly recognize the virtues of the One (its kindness, its beauty), virtue dwells in you and sin runs away — you become like what you admire and love. Then the ache of real love: bin naavai... na jeevaa, I can't survive an instant without You, and merely talking and listening isn't enough — Nanak cries piaaraa, piaaraa! — Beloved, Beloved! Love wants the real presence, not just words about it.
Have you noticed you start to act like the people (or heroes) you admire most?
