Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
With every breath, with every hair, I hold the One close.
The Name soaked into me so deeply that my restless wanting simply quieted, and a calm settled over my whole being.
A verse of total saturation: rom rom — with each and every hair — the Gurmukh remembers. It's the poetry of a love that leaves no part of you out; not a corner of the self that isn't turned toward the One. And the fruit is the quieting of desire and hunger — the restless always-more going still — replaced by peace in mind and body. The verse ends on Ram Das's signature humility: made me the slave of the slaves of His slaves (daasan daas) — the lowest, most joyful place, wanting to serve even those who serve. Love this complete doesn't puff you up; it happily makes you small.
What would it feel like to do something with every single bit of your attention?
