Verse 4 of 4

A Heart in Love Never Tires of What It Loves

gursikhaa man vaaDhaa-ee-aa jin mayraa satguroo dithaa raam raajay.
The minds of the Gursikhs rejoice, because they have seen my True Guru, O Lord King.
ko-ee kar gal sunaavai har naam kee so lagai gursikhaa man mithaa.
If someone recites to them the story of the Lord's Name, it seems so sweet to the mind of those Gursikhs.
har dargeh gursikh painaa-ee-ah jinHaa mayraa satgur tuthaa.
The Gursikhs are robed in honor in the Court of the Lord; my True Guru is very pleased with them.

Servant Nanak has become the Lord, Har, Har; the Lord, Har, Har, abides within his mind. ||4||12||19||

In plain words

Their hearts leap with joy just from being near true wisdom.

Even hearing the story of the One sounds sweet to them — and this closeness grows until the heart and the One become one.

A heart in love never tires of what it loves — and that closeness grows until the two become one.
The deeper layer

The shabad closes in shared joy: the hearts of the wise rejoice just from seeing the Guru, and even hearing the story of the Name sounds sweet to them — the mark of a heart in love is that it never tires of what it loves. And the final line sounds Ram Das's recurring wonder once more: servant Nanak has become the Lord — the Lord abides within his mind. The whole run of shabads keeps returning to this: love, followed all the way home, ends not in distance but in union — the One coming to dwell within the one who loved it. The joy that began as delight at being near ends as the two becoming one.

A Question to Sit With

What is something you never get tired of, no matter how many times you experience it?
