In plain words

When the One is your helper, the whole world turns from harsh to sweet — like a pool of nectar.

Wear the Name like a necklace, and the days of hurting are over.

Doubt, clinging and wrong fall away, and being born again and again comes to an end.

Even a sea of fire cools right down when you hold onto the hem of a good and holy person's robe.

The good and holy call out: victory to the One! The One is kind and strong, and cares for the world.

Nanak says: remembering the Name among good people, I have reached the highest place.

The world turns from harsh to sweet not by changing it, but by no longer facing it alone.
The deeper layer

The world feels sweeter when you don't have to face it alone.

Amrit ban sansaar sahaa-ee aap bha-ay — when the One becomes your helper, the world becomes a pool of amrit, sweet nectar. Sansaar means the world. The world didn't change. How you stand in it did. The same life that felt like an agan saagar, a sea of fire, now feels sweet.

And the cooling comes from simply holding on. Saadh anchal geh rahay — hold on to the hem of a holy person's robe. Anchal means the edge of a cloth. It's the way a small child holds a grown-up's sleeve in a crowd. You don't have to beat all the world's hard things. You take one good hand, and everything softens. Part of the heat was the heat of facing it alone.

A Question to Sit With

Has having someone kind beside you ever made a hard situation suddenly feel bearable?
