The Cure for a Heavy Mood Is to Just Begin

aasaa mehlaa 5.
Aasaa, Fifth Mehl:
vanj mayray aalsaa har paas baynantee.
Be gone, O my laziness, that I may pray to the Lord.
raava-o saho aapnarhaa parabh sang sohantee.
I enjoy my Husband Lord, and look beautiful with my God.
sangay sohantee kant su-aamee dinas rainee raavee-ai.
I look beautiful in the Company of my Husband Lord; I enjoy my Lord Master day and night.
saas saas chitaar jeevaa parabh paykh har gun gaavee-ai.
I live by remembering God with each and every breath, beholding the Lord, and singing His Glorious Praises.
birhaa lajaa-i-aa daras paa-i-aa ami-o darisat siNchantee.
The pain of separation has grown shy, for I have obtained the Blessed Vision of His Darshan; His Ambrosial Glance of Grace has filled me with bliss.
binvant naanak mayree ichh punnee milay jis khojantee. ||1||
Prays Nanak, my desires are fulfilled; I have met the One I was seeking. ||1||

In plain words

Away with you, laziness — I've got something far better to do: turn my heart toward the One.

And the moment I do, I feel lit up and lovely, delighting in that love with every breath.

The cure for a heavy, lazy mood is often just to start the good thing — and delight rushes in behind you.
The deeper layer

The shabad opens with a wonderfully brisk, cheerful command — jaahu, aalas! — be gone, laziness! — the voice of someone shaking off sluggishness to do the thing that actually makes them happy. And the reward is immediate: turning to the One, I look beautiful, I live by remembering with each breath, the pain of separation grows shy and slips away. This isn't grim duty; it's the discovery that the thing you kept putting off is the thing that fills you with joy. Sometimes the cure for a heavy, lazy mood is simply to start — and delight rushes in behind you.

A Question to Sit With

What's a good thing you feel better for doing, even when you didn't feel like starting?
