Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
Everything you do, day and night, leaves its mark — and the One you might try to hide it from is right beside you, seeing it all with love.
So do good, keep the One in mind — the good you carry is the only thing that travels with you.
The shabad makes a striking point about honesty: the One you'd hide your actions from — He sees them, and is always with you. This could sound like being watched, but the tone is love, not surveillance: you are never alone, always accompanied, and the One who sees you also cares for you. And the practical upshot is gentle: so do good deeds — not out of fear, but because goodness is the one thing that goes with you. When you know you're always in kind company, honesty becomes natural: there's no point hiding from someone who loves you and already knows.
Does knowing someone kind is always with you make it easier to do the right thing?
