Loving the One Brings Wave After Wave of Joy

anat tarang bhagat har rangaa.
Loving devotion to the Lord brings endless waves of joy and delight.
an-din soochay har gun sangaa.
One who dwells with the Glorious Praises of the Lord, night and day, is sanctified.
mithi-aa janam saakat sansaaraa.
The birth into the world of the faithless cynic is totally useless.
raam bhagat jan rahai niraaraa. ||2||
The humble devotee of the Lord remains unattached. ||2||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Loving the One brings wave upon wave of joy.

The one who lives with the One's praises, night and day, is made whole; but a life closed against the One is wasted.

The humble devotee stays unattached.

Loving the One brings wave after wave of joy — held lightly, without clinging.
The deeper layer

Joy is described as oceanic — "endless waves of joy and delight" — for the one who loves. By contrast "the faithless cynic" wastes the gift of a human life. The mark of the genuine devotee is non-attachment even amid the joy — held lightly, the householder's vairaag again.

A Question to Sit With

Can you enjoy something fully and still hold it with an open hand?
