Verse 5 of 5

Anchored in the One, No Opinion Tosses You

ਕਹਤੁ ਕਬੀਰੁ ਸੁਨਹੁ ਰੇ ਲੋਈ ॥
kahat kabeer sunhu ray lo-ee.
Says Kabir, listen, O people:
ਅਬ ਤੁਮਰੀ ਪਰਤੀਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥੪॥੨॥੩੫॥
ab tumree parteet na ho-ee. ||4||2||35||
now, I place no reliance in you. ||4||2||35||

In plain words

Kabir says, listen, everyone.

Now I don't lean on you anymore.

When your heart is anchored in the One, you stop being tossed around by everyone's opinions — that's a real freedom.
The deeper layer

This one is about how a heart anchored in the One is not tossed around by other people's opinions.

Kahat kabeer sunhu ray lo-ee — Kabir says, listen, people. Ab tumree parteet na ho-ee — now I no longer lean on you.

Kabir has given his whole heart to the One, in a bond that nothing can break. So he no longer depends on the crowd's praise, opinions, or help.

This is not being cold to people. It is the calm of someone whose deepest safety now rests in the One. He is no longer nervously leaning on what others think or do.

Think of a boat with a strong anchor. The waves still come, but the boat doesn't drift away. When your heart is anchored in the One, or in real, steady love, you stop being pushed around by everyone else's likes and dislikes.

That is a kind of freedom. You can love people freely, because you don't need their approval to feel safe. Your safety rests somewhere that cannot be shaken.

A Question to Sit With

How might not needing everyone's approval actually make you freer to love people?
