Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
Full of hope and longing, I come near to my Beloved —
but I do not even know whether I please Him or not.
Anxious calculating about whether you measure up keeps you from simply loving.
The bride approaches "with hope and desire," yet uncertain of her welcome. This insecurity is honest: the soul still half-trapped in hope and desire cannot rest, because it is still calculating its standing rather than simply loving. The unease is itself a symptom of the ego that the later pauris will see dissolve.
A Question to Sit With
When does worrying about whether you're "good enough" get in the way of just being present?
