The Years Pass Whether or Not You Taste What Matters

ਪ੍ਰੇਮੁ ਨ ਚਾਖਿਆ ਮੇਰੀ ਤਿਸ ਨ ਬੁਝਾਨੀ ॥

I have not tasted His Love, and my thirst is not quenched.

My beautiful youth has run away, and now I, the soul-bride, repent and regret. ||3||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

I have never truly tasted His love, and my thirst is still unquenched.

My lovely young years have slipped away, and now I am full of regret.

The years pass whether or not we taste what matters most — so don't put it off.
The deeper layer

The pang of wasted time: "my beautiful youth has run away." Having never "tasted His Love" (the Har Ras of real contact, not mere knowing about), the bride is left thirsty and regretful. This is the urgency beneath the whole soul-bride poetry — the night of life is finite, and it is passing.

A Question to Sit With

Is there something you keep meaning to do that you don't want to look back on having missed?
