In the deepest truth, no one finally belongs to anyone — no one is really anyone else's son, no one anyone else's mother.
It is false clinging that sends people wandering, lost and unsure.
This one says we can love our people deeply, but we do not own them.
na kis kaa poot na kis kee maa-ee — no one is anyone's son, no one is anyone's mother. That sounds surprising. But it is not saying love is fake. Families are real and precious.
The verse is about jhoothai mohi, false clinging. That means treating the people we love as things we own forever. Nothing in this world stays forever, and holding on that tightly leaves people lost and unsure.
Think of holding a bird. Hold it gently, and it can rest in your hands. Squeeze it, and you hurt it. The problem is the tight grip, not the love (see also Shabad 48).
Can you love someone deeply and still hold them with an open hand?
