O foolish people, why don't you remember the One Lord?

Forgetting the Lord, your virtues shall wither away. ||1||Pause||

O foolish ones, why do you not remember the One?
Forget the One, and even your good qualities dry up and fall away.
Even your good qualities wither if they lose their root in remembrance.
The Pause warns that remembrance is the root: "forgetting the Lord, your virtues shall wither away." Goodness is not self-sustaining; cut from its source, even real virtues dry up like a plant pulled from the soil. The Name is not one virtue among many but the water the others live on.
