The Soul Longs to Make Itself Ready for Love

ਫੂਲ ਮਾਲਾ ਗਲਿ ਪਹਿਰਉਗੀ ਹਾਰੋ ॥
fool maalaa gal pahir-ugee haaro.
I will decorate my neck with garlands of flowers.
ਮਿਲੈਗਾ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮੁ ਤਬ ਕਰਉਗੀ ਸੀਗਾਰੋ ॥੨॥
milaigaa pareetam tab kar-ugee seegaaro. ||2||
When I meet my Beloved, then I will put on my decorations. ||2||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

I will dress up my neck with garlands of flowers;

when I meet my Beloved, then I will put on all my finery.

The soul longs to make itself ready for the One it loves.
The deeper layer

A flash of the soul-bride: she longs to adorn herself for the meeting. The poignancy is the gap — she prepares her ornaments, but the meeting waits. Set between the honest confession before and the mortality after, this hope to "put on my decorations" is the bride's yearning to be ready, even while the five companions still hold her.

A Question to Sit With

How do you get ready, inside, for something that matters deeply to you?
