ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੀਠਾ ਅਤਿ ਰਸੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
har kaa naam meethaa at ras ho-ay.
The essence of the Lord's Name is so very sweet;
ਪੀਵਤ ਰਹੈ ਪੀਆਏ ਸੋਇ ॥
peevat rahai pee-aa-ay so-ay.
he alone drinks it, whom the Lord causes to drink it.
ਗੁਰ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਪਾਏ ॥
gur kirpaa tay har ras paa-ay.
By Guru's Grace, the essence of the Lord is obtained.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਗਤਿ ਪਾਏ ॥੪॥੩॥੪੨॥
naanak naam ratay gat paa-ay. ||4||3||42||
O Nanak, imbued with the Naam, the Name of the Lord, salvation is attained. ||4||3||42||

The essence of the Name is so sweet — but only the one the One lets drink it, drinks.
By the Guru's grace that essence is found;
soaked in the Name, the soul is set free.
The Name is sweet — but tasting it is itself a gift you're given.
The Name's sweetness (the Har Ras, the taste of the One) is real, but the drinking is grace: "he alone drinks it, whom the Lord causes to drink". You cannot force the taste; you can only be made able to receive it. And once soaked, the soul is free.
