By Guru's Grace, ignorance is dispelled; one then remains wakeful, night and day, and beholds the True Lord. ||1||Pause||

In plain words

With the jewel of wisdom, everything becomes clear.

By the Guru's grace the dark of not-knowing lifts; then you stay awake, day and night, gazing on the True One.

Real wisdom is a kind of waking up — and then staying awake.
The deeper layer

Real wisdom means waking up, and then staying awake.

This is the Rahao, the "pause" line at the center of the shabad. It speaks of gi-aan ratan, the jewel of wisdom. Like a bright gem, its light clears away agi-aan, not-knowing.

Then comes the result. An-din jaagai vaykhai sach so-ay — you stay awake, night and day, and see the True One. This is the opposite of the sleepy, self-willed life described in other shabads of this raag.

Think of a sleepy student in class who suddenly understands the lesson. Now they are wide awake and paying attention. To understand, in this verse, is to wake up and keep your eyes on the True One.

A Question to Sit With

What is the difference between being asleep to something and truly awake to it?
